Green - Wilson Hut Replacement #68600

Commenting on This Project

The USDA Forest Service is soliciting public comments on a proposal from the Alfred A. Braun Hut System (ABHS) to replace the Green-Wilson Hut on National Forest System (NFS) lands on the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District on the White River National Forest (WRNF). The Green-Wilson Hut is a winter-use backcountry shelter, used primarily by skiers and mountaineers, and is one of seven huts operated by ABHS. Located in the Elk Mountains, the hut is approximately 16 miles south of Aspen, Colorado, at an elevation of 11,280 feet. The hut is located in portions of Section 24, T12s R85w, 6th Principal Meridian. The hut is accessible via Pearl Pass Road and is situated approximately 150 feet up-valley from the Tagert Hut. The project area falls entirely within the ABHS Special Use Permit (SUP) boundary for these huts. A figure depicting the proposed project is attached.

Comments will be accepted any time but will be most helpful if submitted prior to October 10, 2025.  Names and contact information submitted with comments will become part of the public record and may be released under the Freedom of Information Act. Decisions that are categorically excluded from documentation in an Environmental Assessment (EA) or Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) are not subject to an administrative review process (pre-decisional objection process) (Agriculture Act of 2014, Subtitle A, Sec. 8006).
