Questa to Red River Trail Project #67508

The Carson is proposing to construct an approximately 11-mile unpaved multi-use pathway and associated infrastructure (trailheads, bridges, parking access points, etc.) between the Village of Questa and the Town of Red River communities.

During the 30-day scoping period, anticipated to start on Wednesday January 15th, 2025, the CAF is requesting public comments concerning issues and concerns related to the proposed action. Comments should be within the scope of the proposed action, have a direct relationship to the proposed action, and must include supporting reasons for the Responsible Official to consider (36 CFR 218.2).

Providing your comments at this early point allows the CAF the opportunity to incorporate your thoughts, concerns, and issues into the environmental analysis. The Forest Service will use scoping comments to help identify issues and alternatives to be analyzed in a Draft Environmental Assessment, which is expected to be available for comment as early as summer 2025.

Please submit comments to the Responsible Official, Amy Simms, Questa District Ranger, by one of the following methods.

Submitted comments should include: (1) name, address, and telephone number, of the commenter; and if applicable, the organization represented; (2) a heading or subject line of “Comments on Questa to Red River Trail Project,” and (3) specific concerns, issues, or suggestions related to the Project and the reasons for any concerns or suggestions. Comments received, including the names and addresses of those who comment, will be considered part of the public record on this proposal and will be available for public inspection.

In addition, the scoping process will include one (1) public meeting during which comments will be accepted. This public meeting will be held on Wednesday January 22nd, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:30pm MT at the Village of Questa Council Chambers (2500 Old State Rd. 3, Questa, New Mexico 87556).

This Project is subject to 36 CFR 218 Project-level Pre-decisional Administrative Review Process (Parts A and B); hence, individuals and entities who submit timely, specific written comments regarding this proposed Project during any designated opportunity for public comment (including this 30-day period) may file an objection.
