The Soda Springs and Montpelier Ranger Districts have completed the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and the Draft Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) for the Diamond Creek Forest Management Project which was prepared under the guidelines in Section 602(d) of the Healthy Forest Restoration Action (HFRA), Insect and Disease. The selected alternative in the draft DN would authorize the proposed action, which entails treatment of up to 4,832 acres of vegetation through treatments including commercial regeneration harvest, thinning, non-commercial stand improvement, and prescribed fire. The commercial regeneration harvest would create four openings larger than 40 acres in lodgepole and aspen types. To facilitate treatments, approximately three miles of existing system roads would be relocated, and an inactive gravel pit would be opened to provide road surface material for roads in the watershed.
The Responsible Officials are the Soda Springs and Montpelier District Rangers and the Objection Reviewing Officer is the Caribou-Targhee Forest Supervisor. The Final EA and Draft DN/FONSI are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/ctnf/?project=62739.
