Integrated Management of Target Shooting on the Pike National Forest #57807

(Formerly the AIMS of Target Shooting project) This project will establish an adaptive framework to manage the opportunities for and effects of target shooting (recreational sport shooting) on the Pike National Forest.

The Forest Service invites the public to provide input on the draft environmental assessment for the Integrated Management of Target Shooting on the Pike National Forest project during the 30-day public comment period.

Comments are most useful when they are specific, descriptive, and locatable.

For example, this comment is not specific, descriptive, or locatable:

"I have enjoyed target shooting in the forest for years and do not want any areas closed."

A more actionable comment might be:

"I’m concerned about closing areas along NFSR 363. Closing the area to target shooting will mean I need to drive further from my home in Divide."

The Integrated Management of Target Shooting Project is subject to the project level pre-decisional administrative review, or the objection process, found at 36 CFR 218 Subparts A and B. In order to be eligible to submit an objection, the public needs to provide timely specific written comments during any period designated for public comment, such as this 30-day public comment period.

Comments will be reviewed by the project’s interdisciplinary team and, if appropriate, used to update the effects analyses for the Integrated Management of Target Shooting project. ?Depending on the extent of public comments received, the Environmental Assessment and draft Decision Notice may be published in 2024.

THANK YOU for your interest in the management of National Forest System lands!
