Dunlap Creek Vegetation Management Project #65183

Proposal for regeneration and thinning harvest treatments, forest stand improvement, wildlife opening expansion, and prescribed burning on three management units totaling roughly 3,800 acres.

Dear Interested Party,

The James River and Warm Springs Ranger Districts of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are providing the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Dunlap Creek Vegetation Management Project for a 30-day notice and comment period. The project area encompasses approximately 18,300 acres of National Forest System land in Alleghany and Monroe Counties, Virginia. The project proposal includes regeneration and thinning harvest treatments, forest stand improvement, wildlife opening expansion, prescribed burning, and temporary road installation. These proposed activities would move the project area towards the desired conditions outlined in the 2014 Revised Forest Plan for the George Washington National Forest. The draft EA and associated analysis documents are available for review online at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/gwj/?project=65183.

The attached cover letter contains additional details regarding the comment process and review period. We welcome your comments and encourage your review of the proposed project. Please contact Kevin Kyle, District Ranger, if you have questions concerning this project. Thank you for your continued interest in the management of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kyle
