The Forest Service proposes to use vegetation treatments such as tree thinning, prescribed burning, and/or other fuel reduction methods on appx. 116,600 acres to reduce the intensity of fires and create healthier forest conditions.
The Forest Service invites the public to provide input on the draft environmental assessment for the Lower North-South Vegetation Management project during the 30-day public comment period.
The Lower North-South Vegetation Management Project has been approved as an authorized emergency action under Section 40807 of the 2022 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law). Projects authorized under this emergency authority adhere to specific requirements and follow several processes as compared to non-emergency Forest Service projects. Specifically, projects authorized under this emergency authority are not subject to the pre-decisional objection process under part 218 of title 36, Code of Federal Regulations. This EA is operating under the emergency action determination authority and is only required to include a proposed agency action and a no action alternative and public notice shall be provided for each authorized emergency action that is determined to require an environmental assessment. It is critical that you provide feedback during this comment period as this will be the last opportunity to comment.
The comment period begins on November 5, 2024 and ends at 11:59 pm on December 4, 2024.
