Subject: Support Midas Gold
To Whom it May Concern,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback on the Stibnite Gold Project
as part of Midas Gold Idaho's Comment Period. I have been closely following
Midas Gold Idaho's plans since they first came into our state, in large part
because much of the proposed project will take place on public land. The more I
have learned about the project, the more excited I am about the possibilities
it will bring into our state.
What I like about Midas Gold's plan is that it offers solutions for damage
caused by legacy operations and creates a brighter future for the site. For
example, Midas is cleaning up old mining waste from projects dating back to the
WWII era. I know that Alternative 2 is a holistic proposal that addresses
existing issues and protects against their reoccurrence. Tailings are just one
issue related to mining projects, and Midas is addressing them directly. Under
Alternative 2, the company will construct a long-term storage facility for
future waste from mining operations. The facility is designed to withstand an
earthquake up to 6.5 on the Richter scale. I feel confident the company has
considered multiple scenarios in the design, so it will be able to operate
continuously with no problems in order to protect the environment.
I appreciate your time and thoughtfulness. The USFS has provided plenty of
tools to review the DEIS and make commenting within the 60-day timeframe
possible. For the reasons I stated in my letter above, please permit the
Stibnite Gold Project using alternative 2 and let Idahoans see the benefits of
this important project.
Best Wishes,
