Subject: Support Stibnite Gold Project
Dear Permitting Officials,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Stibnite Gold Project as part
of the U.S. Forest Service's permitting process. This is an important project
for Valley County and will have a significant impact on the community. As
someone who explores, plays and cares about this region of Idaho's backcountry,
I want to make sure the Stibnite Gold Project is done the right way.
What I like about Midas Gold's plan is that it offers solutions for damage
caused by legacy operations and creates a brighter future for the site. For
example, Midas is cleaning up old mining waste from projects dating back to the
WWII era. I know that Alternative 2 is a holistic proposal that addresses
existing issues and protects against their reoccurrence. Tailings are just one
issue related to mining projects, and Midas is addressing them directly. Under
Alternative 2, the company will construct a long-term storage facility for
future waste from mining operations. The facility is designed to withstand an
earthquake up to 6.5 on the Richter scale. I feel confident the company has
considered multiple scenarios in the design, so it will be able to operate
continuously with no problems in order to protect the environment.
As the U.S. Forest Service and other state and federal agencies review the
proposed plan and determine the course of action, I encourage you to consider
and appropriately weigh the positive benefits Midas Gold will have on Idaho. We
need to move this project ahead after the 60-day comment period. Alternative
Two truly is a win-win opportunity for Idahoans and the environment.
My best,
