Subject: Move the Stibnite Gold Project Forward
Attention payette national forest supervisor,
It is a privilege for me to comment affirmatively on the Stibnite Gold Project
I go back to the days when the mining district was fractured and mining a thing
of the past. Having followed the history of the area for years I foresaw an
opportunity to once again revive mining activities, contingent on the district
being consolidated. Working with others we were successful in doing just that
by acquiring the interests of the major landowners for a newly formed company,
Midas Gold Inc. Midas has since it's inception worked with the community and
taken steps to satisfy the concerns of the people with a focus to cleaning up
the contamination that ensued from long past mining operations.
As you know, mining waste continues to leach metals into groundwater and is
hazardous to both wildlife and local communities. And Midas discovered elevated
levels of arsenic and antimony in the water. We all recognize the need to
contain and clean up the ongoing damage to the environment. Midas has proposed
it's Alternative 2 plan as a valid solution to improving the site by cleaning
up the tailings and storing them in a containment that protects against
breaches, leaks, or excessive water accumulation.
I highly recommend that you approve the project as outlined by Midas Gold and
the USFS in Alternative 2. The Stibnite Gold Project will not only provide jobs
throughout the community but will address the costly job of cleaning up the
environment.
Respectfully,
