Forest Plan Revision Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests 903 3rd Street Kamiah, ID 83536 To Whom It May Concern, The Great Burn Wilderness area is a hauntingly beautiful area; tremendous habitat for sensitive species (such as mountain goats and wolverines); continuous habitat for grizzley bears and other species between the ecosystems of the Great Burn, the Cabinet-Yaak and Crown of the Continent; a reminder of the enormous power of fire; and a tribute to the people who lost their lives in the 1910 fires. Because it is so open and so isolated, and such critical habitat, The Great Burn is surely one of the last places that should be considered to open for motorized vehicles. It is the sort of place where these vehicles could easily run rampant and cause enormous (and easily visible) damage. It would create an enforcement nightmare and bring to ruin extraordinary preservation work that has already been done. The change that would be wrought within mere years would be your own legacy in this area. For these reasons, I urge you to select Proposed Action Option A for the Hoodoo (Great Burn) Roadless Area – and to add the Bighorn-Weitas Roadless Area to Recommended Wilderness status. Sincerely, Gail Trenfield St. Ignatius, Montana
