Maria T. Garcia Santa Fe National Forest Supervisor 11 Forest Lane Santa Fe, NM 87508 RE: Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for Invasive Plant Control Project Alternative C – No Herbicides should be the preferred treatment for invasive plant control in New Mexico. The three pillars of sustainability Environment, Economy, Social Justice - are not met with the other proposed actions to use Herbicides. Herbicides have adverse consequences on native vegetation, wildlife and can contaminate surface and groundwater. Herbicides are expensive and require specialized equipment to use. Humans applying the herbicide are also exposed to the harmful properties. Manual removal requires more human power, which adds to the local economy.
