• No new Wilderness Areas. This seems a death sentence to forested areas, as no mechanical thinning can ever be performed, thus catastrophic wildfire an eventual inevitability. In this context, some current Wilderness should be considered for change. • Wildlife Habitat Management areas should only be proposed if AZ Game and Fish Dept makes specific recommendations. We already have AZGFD and USF&W to do this work, please USFS don’t waste time and money being redundant. So none new. • I am not familiar enough with proposed Geologic or Botanical Areas to comment. • An alternative that includes the FPR, TMR and 4FR project should be considered. The FPR should be inclusive of all of these things instead of having so many separate documents/activities. Very confusing, wasteful and inefficient the way it is. • The new TMR should be delayed until the FPR and 4FR are decided/implemented. They all go together. • There needs to be MUCH better public communication, as demonstrated by the extremely poor attendance at the last public meeting at the Flagstaff Aquaplex. This is a huge flaw in the process. Very few people even know about all of these proposals, or what impact they would have. The new TMR is a perfect example. A VERY tiny fraction of folks using the Forest even know about it or the appeal process/deadlines, much less approve of it. This is just wrong!! • USFS reports used to make big decisions need to have much more objective input and analysis. A report by the FS for the FS can have no credibility. This is basic research/experimentation methodology. This is another huge flaw in your current process. The new TMR is again an example of this: the reports presented to the public prior to the decision are all illegitimate. • The new TMR is an atrocity !! CNF should be truly ashamed of imposing such punitive restrictions on the public who owns the Forest just because there are a few bad behavers. Folks on foot or bicycle who could not find solitude and quiet before were just not trying. Now it is impossible to find solitude using a vehicle. You’ve accomplished the quite opposite, congratulations !! I know that I can no longer ‘car camp’ at ANY of my numerous traditional favorite spots. Now I am forced to camp with masses along main roads. Thanks a lot!! This is a nuisance, a safety issue, and an environmental issue, none of which I see addressed in the EIS (again, needs better objective input). Bottom line, the TMR is stupid, wrong, and imposed incompetently and/or dishonestly. • As a current Flagstaff and lifelong AZ resident, I would love to help re-review the TMR or other decisions more correctly. Bad decisions can be un-decided. Clearly, based on my discussions with CNF employees, the current decision making leadership does not know our Forest or the folks who use it. Please advise what it would take to get it re-reviewed (do what’s right, not just what’s ‘legal’). Robert Steele 4416 S. Kathy Rd. Flagstaff, AZ 86005 rsteele@npgcable.com 928-607-3398
