To: Erin Boyle As an avid hiker, bicyclist, and lover/supporter of our national forests I feel the need to contact you with regards to the East Catalina Wilderness proposal. Daily, countless citizens enjoy their time in this beautiful area. Many of them are on Mtn Bikes. Please consider the impact that a Wilderness designation will have on those users. While I like most fellow bikers support the idea of Wilderness, the existing federal strictures make it impossible to use the designation in an inclusive manner. We need to encourage more people to venture forth in the forest not less. There are other tools at your disposal if you feel an area needs protection, that do not close the area to bikes. Until the Wilderness debate is re framed as regards bicycles it will continue to exclude more and more people from our public lands at a time when citizen stewardship and involvement are more critical than ever. Please consider a National Scenic or Protection Area designation, or non-Wilderness corridors or cherry stems and boundary adjustments that will protect the land and allow our use to continue. Thank you for the consideration. -- Randy Wolfe Prescott, Arizona 928-710-3391
