Opportunity to Object to the Draft Decision for the Prescribed Burn and Habitat Restoration Project - Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, Big Piney Ranger District

The Big Piney Ranger District has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA), Finding of No Significant Impact, and draft Decision Notice (DN) for the 2024 Prescribed Burn and Habitat Restoration Project. These, along with supporting documentation, are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r08/ozark-stfrancis/projects/64654.

How to File an Objection and Timeframe

Under Forest Service regulations, the draft DN is subject to the pre-decisional objection process pursuant to Title 36 CFR 218 Subparts A and B. Objections will only be accepted from those who have previously submitted timely comments during any designated opportunity for public comment. Issues raised in objection must be based upon these previously submitted timely comments.

Objections must be submitted within the 45-day objection period that will begin the day after this notice is published. Those wishing to object should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. If the objection filing period ends on a Saturday, Sunday, or Federal holiday, objections will be accepted until the end of the next Federal working day. It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure timely receipt of any objections submitted.

Objections, including attachments, may be submitted by mail to District Ranger Timothy E. Jones, at the Big Piney Ranger District, 12000 SR 27 Hector, AR 72843. Please state “2024 Big Piney Burning and Habitat Restoration Project” on the envelope when replying by mail.  Submissions will be considered part of the public record and will be available for public inspection.

Eligible objections must contain (1) The objector’s name and address, along with a telephone number or email address if available; (2) Signature or other verification of authorship upon request (a scanned signature for electronic mail may be filed with the objection); (3) Identification of the lead objector, when multiple names are listed on an objection, and verification of the identity of the lead objector, if requested. Individual members of an entity must have submitted their own individual comments to have eligibility to object as an individual.

Please contact Environmental Coordinator Janine Book at 479-964-7282 or janine.book@usda.gov for further information or if you have any questions regarding the objection process.
