Discovery Day Mine #52448

Commenting on This Project

The draft decision notice and finding of no significant impact (DN/FONSI) and environmental assessment (EA) for the Discovery Day Mine Project are now available for public review. The Klamath National Forest has received a proposed Plan of Operations (Plan), submitted by Discovery Day Mine, LLC for operations involving the surface use and occupancy of National Forest System lands associated with the Discovery Day Mine gold mining operation. The purpose of this project is to analyze the proposed use of the Discovery Day Mine as proposed in the Plan for impacts to surface resources. The project site is located about three miles southeast of Forks of Salmon in Siskiyou County, California. The legal description for the project site is Township (T) 9 North (N), Range 7 East (E), Sections 1 and 12; and T 9N R 8E Section 6 and 7, Humboldt Base Meridian. The Discovery Day LLC holds claims within a boundary of about 950 acres within the Knownothing Creek watershed. However, within the project area, activities are only proposed within a footprint of about 13.5 acres and consist of a road, three working pads, and underground tunnels located on the southeast side of a ridge between the east and west fork drainages of Knownothing Creek. The draft DN/FONSI and EA and supporting documents are available on the Klamath National Forest’s project webpage at: http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/fs-usda-pop.php/?project=52448
