This non-discretionary project proposes to bulk sample up to 1,000 cubic yards of material. The project will utilize heavy equipment and include use of helicopters to transport materials to the airfield at Prospect, Oregon.
The High Cascades Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation to respond to a plan of operations for bulk sampling in Douglas County, Oregon in T. 29 S., R. 03 E., Section 13; Willamette Meridian.
The project is in response to a submitted plan of operations (plan, proposal) for collection of approximately 1,000 yards of material, on which sample testing will be conducted. The sample collection will be subsurface and will require the use of heavy equipment and helicopter transport from the site to an established landing facility at the Prospect, Oregon airfield. The scope of the project is limited to sample collection and associated reclamation activities.
The project will have limited disturbed surface area, and ground-disturbing activities will be at least 100 feet from Foster Creek. No tailings will be generated, and all excavated material will be used to re-contour and fill in excavation sites.
The level of NEPA documentation anticipated is a categorical exclusion, and public input is being conducted to ascertain if there are other considerations that the Agency should consider. The project is not discretionary.
