A legal notice announcing the opening of the objection period for the project was published in the Athens Messenger on April 28, 2026.
The legal notice opens a 45-day objection period, which provides opportunity to those that previously submitted comments during the scoping period (4/28-5/28/2025) or 30-day comment period (3/3-4/2/2026) to now object to the intended decision.

This project is subject to regulations found at 36 CFR Part 218, Subparts A and B, dealing with public comment and objection opportunities. Objections will be accepted from those who have previously submitted specific written comments regarding the project during the scoping or comment period, or from those raising new information that was previously unavailable. Issues raised in objections must be based on previously submitted, timely, and specific comments regarding the project unless they are based on new information arising after the comment period.
Objections must include the objector’s name, address, and telephone number; signature or other verification of authorship of the individual, entity, or lead objector; and must reference the 2025 Non-Native Invasive Plant Control Project, the WNF, and Responsible Official Forest Supervisor Lee Stewart. Objections must also include specific issues related to the proposed project; if applicable, how the objector believes the environmental analysis or draft decision specifically violates law, regulation, or policy; suggested remedies to resolve the objections; supporting reasons for the reviewing officer to consider; and a statement that demonstrates the connection between prior specific written comments about the project and the content of the objection, unless the objection relates to information that arose after the comment period. Incorporation of documents by reference is permitted only as provided for at 36 CFR 218.8(b).
The 45-day objection period begins the day following the publication of this legal notice in The Athens Messenger. If the 45th day falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the next business day marks the close of the objection period. The date the legal notice publishes is the exclusive means for calculating the time to file an objection. Those wishing to object should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. An objection, including attachments, must be filed with the reviewing officer within 45 days of this legal notice. It is the objector’s responsibility to ensure timely filing of a written objection with the reviewing officer.
Electronic submissions are preferred by submitting them in the form structure below and must be submitted by 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on the closing date. Objections sent by US Postal Service or shipping service must be post-marked by or have a shipping date by the closing date of the objection period AND be received within five business days of the objection period closing date. Hand-delivered objections must be received by close of business on the last day of the objection period.

Objections submitted to other addresses, in different formats, or containing viruses, will be rejected. If no objections are received, this project may be implemented after the 5th business day following the close of the objection period.
