SLATER FIRE ROAD SYSTEM RISK REDUCTION
AND SAFETY PROJECT – FOREST SERVICE ROGUE RIVER-SISKIYOU NATIONAL FOREST,
WILD RIVERS RANGER DISTRICT, CAVE JUNCTION, OR

The Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Slater Fire Road System Risk Reduction and Safety Project
is completed and the project is now subject to a 45-day objection period. A draft Decision Notice
and Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI), which accompanies the EA, describes the proposed
decision to select Alternative 2 and reasons for the decision. The project area (8,961 acres) is
located 7 miles southeast of the town of Cave Junction, Oregon. Project is to fall fire-killed and
injured trees that may strike or roll onto Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest System roads
affected by 2020 Slater wildfire and to develop the most crucial portion of these roads into fuel
management zones to aid in effective future wildfire suppression and landscape fuels management.
The EA and Draft DN/FONSI are available on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest project website
at: https:// www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=62020. Hard copies can be requested by contacting the
